Huitzilihuitl
?–1417 CE · Tenochtitlan
Huitzilihuitl was the second tlatoani of Tenochtitlan, ruling from about 1396 to 1417. By marrying a daughter of Tezozomoc, the powerful Tepanec ruler of Azcapotzalco, he secured a reduction in the tribute the Mexica owed their overlords and strengthened the young city through alliance. His reign saw the first modest expansion of Mexica influence and the growth of Tenochtitlan's wealth and standing.
