Acamapichtli
?–1395 CE · Tenochtitlan
Acamapichtli was the first tlatoani of Tenochtitlan, ruling from about 1376 to 1395, and the founder of the Mexica royal dynasty from whom later emperors traced descent. In his day the young island city was still a tributary vassal of the Tepanec power at Azcapotzalco, and he consolidated its fledgling institutions and lineage. His establishment of a legitimate royal house set the stage for the Mexica rise in the following century.
