Mehmed IV
1642 CE–1693 CE · Constantinople
Mehmed IV, known as 'the Hunter,' became Ottoman ruler as a child in 1648 and reigned for nearly four decades. Much of the effective government was conducted by the capable Köprülü family of grand viziers, under whom Ottoman fortunes revived for a time. His reign ended in decline after the failed siege of Vienna in 1683 and subsequent defeats, leading to his deposition in 1687. He died in 1693.
