Henry Purcell

Henry Purcell was an English composer and organist of the Baroque era, active in Westminster throughout his short life. Trained as a chorister of the Chapel Royal, he became organist of Westminster Abbey in 1679 and of the Chapel Royal in 1682, and served as a royal instrument-keeper and composer. His output spans sacred anthems, court odes, incidental theatre music, and the opera "Dido and Aeneas." He wrote music for the courts of Charles II, James II, and William and Mary, including funeral music later performed at his own burial. He died in 1695 and was interred in Westminster Abbey.
