Shu"t Eretz Tzvi
Sochaczew · 1938
1884 CE–1943 CE · Acharonim · Wolbrum
Aryeh Tzvi Fromer (1884-1943), remembered as the Kozhiglover Rav, was a Polish rabbi, rosh yeshiva, and halachic authority. Born in Czeladz, he studied as a boy in Wolbrom and Amstov before becoming a close disciple of the Avnei Nezer, the Sochatchover Rebbe, whose Hasidic circle shaped much of his life. He led the yeshiva in Sochaczew (1910-1914) and later served as rabbi of Koziegowy, the town that gave him his title, until 1921. In 1934 he succeeded Meir Shapiro as head of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, then among Poland's foremost yeshivas. His writings include the Talmudic studies Siach HaSadeh, the volume Meikavtze'el, and his responsa Eretz Tzvi, still cited in halachic literature. Confined to the Warsaw Ghetto under German occupation, he was deported in 1943 to the Majdanek camp, where he was murdered.
