Frank Lloyd Wright
1867 CE–1959 CE · Architect · Richland Center, Wisconsin
Frank Lloyd Wright was an American architect active across roughly seventy years and more than a thousand designed structures. He apprenticed in Chicago, notably under Louis Sullivan, then developed the low, horizontal Prairie house in the 1900s. He coined the phrase "organic architecture" for buildings meant to harmonize with site and inhabitant. His works include the Robie House, Unity Temple, Fallingwater in Pennsylvania, the Johnson Wax headquarters, and the spiral Guggenheim Museum in New York. He founded the Taliesin Fellowship, maintaining studios at Taliesin in Wisconsin and Taliesin West in Arizona. He also wrote and lectured widely on design and city planning.
