Rabbi Meir Atlas
1848 CE–1926 CE · Acharonim · Telz (Telšiai)
A quiet giant of the Lithuanian Rabbinate and a premier architect of the pre-war Yeshiva world, Rabbi Meir Atlas was the primary catalyst behind the founding of the Telz Yeshiva and later served as the distinguished Chief Rabbi of Shavl (Siauliai). Renowned for his vast erudition and his refusal to publish his own manuscripts out of extreme modesty, he is perhaps best known as the "Father of the Telzer Dynasty," having hand-picked Rav Eliezer Gordon to lead the yeshiva and eventually becoming the father-in-law to three of the generation's greatest leaders: Rav Elchonon Wasserman, Rav Chaim Ozer Grodzinski, and Rav Yehuda Kahana Shapiro.
