Georges Clemenceau

Georges Clemenceau was a French statesman and journalist who served as Prime Minister from 1906 to 1909 and again from 1917 to 1920. Known for his combative style, he led France through the final year of the First World War, rallying the country to victory. He was a principal Allied negotiator at the Paris Peace Conference and a leading figure in shaping the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. He had earlier been a prominent defender of Alfred Dreyfus during the Dreyfus Affair. He died in 1929.
