Friedrich Ebert

Friedrich Ebert was a German Social Democratic politician who served as the first President of the Weimar Republic from 1919 until his death in 1925. A former saddler and trade unionist, he led the Social Democratic Party and became head of government amid the revolution that followed Germany's defeat in the First World War. As president he presided over the adoption of the Weimar constitution and confronted uprisings from both the far left and far right as well as severe economic crisis. He died in office in 1925.
