George Washington

George Washington was the 1st President of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797. He had commanded the Continental Army to victory in the Revolutionary War and presided over the 1787 Constitutional Convention. Unaffiliated with any party, he established many precedents of the office, including the two-term tradition, and delivered a widely studied Farewell Address.
