Rama I
1737 CE–1809 CE · Bangkok
Rama I (1737–1809) was the founder of the Chakri dynasty and the Rattanakosin Kingdom of Siam, reigning from 1782 until his death. A former general, he came to power after the fall of the earlier Thonburi kingdom and established a new capital at Bangkok. He oversaw the restoration of Siamese institutions, law, and Buddhist scholarship, including a revision of the Pali canon and the compilation of legal codes. His dynasty continues to reign in Thailand today.
