Rabbi Shlomo Ephraim Luntschitz, known as the Kli Yakar ("Precious Vessel"), was a prominent Jewish scholar and biblical commentator of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. He served as a rabbi in Prague during the reign of Rudolf II, a period of relative Jewish flourishing in Bohemia. The Kli Yakar was renowned for his incisive biblical commentary, which synthesized Kabbalistic thought with rational textual analysis, offering fresh interpretations of Torah that addressed seeming redundancies and textual difficulties. His works, particularly his commentary on the Torah (Kli Yakar), became influential in Jewish study and reflected the intellectual vitality of Central European Jewish communities in the early modern period. He died in Prague around 1619.
