Puyi (Xuantong Emperor)
1906 CE–1967 CE · Beijing
Puyi, who reigned as the Xuantong Emperor, was the last emperor of China. Enthroned as a small child in 1908, he abdicated in 1912 during the revolution that ended the Qing dynasty and more than two thousand years of imperial rule. He later served as nominal ruler of Manchukuo, the state established under Japanese control in the 1930s. After the Second World War he was held and re-educated, ending his life as an ordinary citizen of the People's Republic of China.
