William IV
1765 CE–1837 CE · London
William IV was King of the United Kingdom and of Hanover from 1830 until his death in 1837. A younger son of George III, he served in the Royal Navy in his youth and came to the throne after the death of his elder brother George IV. His reign saw the passage of the Reform Act of 1832, which broadened the electoral franchise, and the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833. Having no surviving legitimate children, he was succeeded by his niece, Queen Victoria.
