George IV

George IV was King of the United Kingdom and of Hanover from 1820 until his death in 1830, having already served as Prince Regent from 1811 during the incapacity of his father, George III. His period of rule saw the final defeat of Napoleon and the early industrial expansion of Britain. He was a noted patron of art and architecture but was widely criticized for his lavish spending and his troubled marriage to Caroline of Brunswick. He was succeeded by his brother, William IV.
