Lord Byron

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, was an English poet and a leading figure of the Romantic movement. Raised partly in Aberdeen, he inherited his barony as a boy and studied at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. He won wide fame with Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and later Don Juan, alongside numerous shorter poems and verse tales. After leaving England in 1816 he lived in Switzerland and across Italy, moving in literary and political circles. He joined the Greek War of Independence, funding and organizing forces at Missolonghi, where he died of fever in 1824 at the age of thirty-six.
