Rabbi Avraham Dovid Wahrman (1770-1840) was a Galician halakhic scholar active in towns of what is now western Ukraine. Born in Nadvorna (Nadvirna) to Asher Anshel, he was recognized as a gifted student in his youth and, around the age of twenty, took up his first rabbinic post at Yazlovets (Jazlowiec). In 1813 he became rabbi of Buczacz (Buchach), succeeding his father-in-law, and held that seat until his death. He is best remembered for Eshel Avraham, a set of glosses on the Orach Chayim section of the Shulchan Arukh that remained in use among later halakhists. His further writings include Da'as Kedoshim on Yoreh De'ah, Ezer MiKodesh on Even HaEzer, Machazeh Avraham on the Torah, and Divrei Avos on Pirkei Avot. Initially wary of Hasidism, he later drew closer to the movement.
