Bnei Yissaschar

1783 CE1841 CE · Acharonim · Dinov (Dynów)

Tzvi Elimelekh Shapira of Dinov (c. 1783–1841) was a prominent Hasidic rabbi and kabbalist active in Galicia. He served as rabbi of Dinov (Dynów) and became known for his mystical teachings and systematic approach to Hasidic thought. He was principally a disciple of the Seer (Chozeh) of Lublin, and also studied under the Maggid of Kozhnitz and Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov; he was a nephew of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk. Shapira was celebrated for his work Bnei Yissaschar, a multi-volume compilation of homilies and mystical teachings organized according to the Jewish calendar and the tribes of Israel. His work became influential in Hasidic circles for its synthesis of Kabbalistic and Hasidic ideas and its detailed treatment of the spiritual significance of the Jewish festivals.
