Suleiman II
1642 CE–1691 CE · Constantinople
Suleiman II became Ottoman ruler in 1687 after the deposition of his brother Mehmed IV, having spent most of his life in confinement. His short reign fell during the war against the Holy League that followed the Ottoman failure at Vienna. He supported the reforming grand vizier Fazil Mustafa Pasha, whose efforts briefly recovered Ottoman positions, including the recapture of Belgrade in 1690. He died in 1691.
