Ahuitzotl
?–1502 CE · Tenochtitlan
Ahuitzotl was the eighth tlatoani of Tenochtitlan, ruling from 1486 to 1502 and driving the Mexica empire to its greatest territorial extent, with campaigns reaching the Pacific coast, Oaxaca, and the borders of Guatemala. He presided over the grand rededication of the Templo Mayor in 1487 and expanded the capital's public works and aqueducts. Father of the future emperor Cuauhtémoc, he left to his nephew Moctezuma II an empire near its height.
