Little Turtle (Mihšihkinaahkwa)

Mihshihkinaahkwa, known as Little Turtle, was a war leader of the Miami (Myaamia) in the Ohio and Wabash country. In the early 1790s he helped lead a confederacy of Native nations to major victories over U.S. forces, defeating General Josiah Harmar in 1790 and inflicting one of the U.S. Army's worst defeats on General Arthur St. Clair in 1791. After the confederacy's defeat he signed the Treaty of Greenville in 1795 and turned to civil leadership, advocating for his people until his death in 1812.
