Axayacatl
1449 CE–1481 CE · Tenochtitlan
Axayacatl was the sixth tlatoani of Tenochtitlan, ruling the Mexica from 1469 to 1481. He absorbed the neighboring island city of Tlatelolco into Tenochtitlan in 1473 and extended Mexica conquests, but suffered a costly defeat when he invaded the Tarascan (Purépecha) kingdom of Michoacán around 1478. He was the father of the later rulers Moctezuma II and Cuitláhuac.
