Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President, serving from 1945 to 1953 as a Democrat. He succeeded to the office on the death of Franklin Roosevelt, having been Vice President, and oversaw the end of World War II. His administration launched the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe, helped found NATO, and committed U.S. forces to the Korean War.
