Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, and ceramicist active mainly in France. Born in Málaga in 1881 and trained early by his artist father, he worked through his Blue and Rose periods before co-founding Cubism with Georges Braque around 1907–1908. His long career spanned collage, sculpture, stage design, and ceramics, and included the mural "Guernica" (1937), painted in response to the bombing of the Basque town. He lived and worked in A Coruña, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, and the south of France (Vallauris, Cannes, and Mougins). One of the most prolific and widely exhibited artists of the twentieth century, he died at Mougins in 1973.
