Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, an English writer, poet, and mathematician. Born in Cheshire to a clergyman's family, he was educated at Richmond School and Rugby School before entering Christ Church, Oxford, where he lectured in mathematics for most of his adult life. He is best known for the children's novels "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" (1865) and its sequel "Through the Looking-Glass" (1871), and for nonsense verse including "Jabberwocky" and "The Hunting of the Snark." Under his own name he published works on mathematics and logic. He was also an early photographer. He never married and died in Guildford in 1898.
