Lev Eliyahu
Kfar Hasidim · 1972
1876 CE–1970 CE · Modern · Grajewo
Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian (1876–1970), affectionately known as Reb Elyah, was one of the last great masters of the mussar movement. Born in Grajewo and shaped in the famed Talmud Torah of Kelm under the Alter of Kelm, he served from 1928 as rosh yeshiva of the Etz Chaim Yeshiva in London, and in 1950 settled in the Land of Israel as mashgiach ruchani — spiritual guide — of the Knesses Chizkiyahu yeshiva, ultimately at Kfar Hasidim. His teachings on character refinement and self-awareness, gathered by his students as Lev Eliyahu, are among the most beloved works of modern mussar.
