Founder of Lelov Hasidism
1746 CE–1814 CE · AH · Lelów (Lelov)
R. Dovid Biderman of Lelov (Lelów, 1746-1814) was the founder of the Lelov Hasidic dynasty and one of the senior disciples of the Chozeh of Lublin and R. Elimelech of Lizhensk. Born in Lelów in central Poland, he was renowned in his generation as a tzaddik of particular gentleness and humility.
His Migdal David and Likkutei David are posthumous collections of his teachings. The Lelov dynasty was unusual among Polish Hasidic courts in maintaining an early aliyah presence in Eretz Yisrael — his great-grandson R. David Tzvi Solomon Biderman of Lelov settled in Jerusalem in 1851, where the Lelov court has continued uninterrupted since.
