Friedrich Hayek

Friedrich August von Hayek was an Austrian-born economist and political philosopher. Educated at the University of Vienna, where he earned doctorates in law and political science, he became a leading figure of the Austrian school of economics. From 1931 he taught at the London School of Economics, developing theories of capital, business cycles, and the coordinating role of prices and dispersed knowledge. Later posts took him to the University of Chicago, Freiburg, and Salzburg. His writings include Prices and Production, The Road to Serfdom, The Constitution of Liberty, and Law, Legislation and Liberty. He shared the 1974 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.
