Henry James

Henry James was an American-born writer of novels, short stories, and criticism who spent most of his adult life in Europe and took British citizenship in 1915. His fiction is known for psychological depth and for placing American characters within European society; principal works include The Portrait of a Lady, The Bostonians, The Wings of the Dove, The Ambassadors, and The Golden Bowl, alongside the tale The Turn of the Screw. He also wrote extensively as a literary critic and travel essayist. Raised in a prominent intellectual family, he settled in England, later dividing time between London and Rye. His narrative technique influenced the development of the modern novel.
